[REQUEST] Channel4 Catchup - 4oD (Channel 4 on Demand) Plugin?
#61
Smiff Wrote:i read above that official plugin doesn't have RTMPE support. lots of conflicting info.

to be clear, playback of 4oD content does work in the beta196. problem is in (lack of) search results.
has anyone confirmed they can find 4oD content successfully using any youtube plugin? despite trying many i have never seen this work.

any link to the latest official youtube plugin please? i don't have access to installer right now.

To be fair, the information that you're referring to was posted on 14th Sept 2010. Things have changed a bit over the last 5 months. At the time the XBMC official repo was not allowing plugins that supported RTMPE due to legal concerns. This is why the YouTube plugin maintained a separate beta plugin (with RTMPE support) on a separate site. The legal concerns have since been resolved (or at least dealt with in a way that absolves XBMC of responsibility for how you use the plugin you download), so there is now no need to maintain the separate beta plugin. And that's the point of my last post: the beta isn't maintained any more; I only mentioned RTMPE because that's the reason that it was last updated so long ago. If you just download and install the YouTube plugin from the official repo it should work for 4oD. I have just done a search for, and started watching an episode of Peep Show found by searching for "peep show 4odcomedy" which ,as far as I can tell, finds all available episodes. It definitely works.

To get the latest Youtube plugin from the addon repo:
Settings > Add-ons > Get Add-ons > XBMC.org Add-ons > Video > YouTube
I'm afraid I don't know a link to directly download the plugin, you could try asking on this thread: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=79487

procrastinator is spot on, an easy way to manage subscriptions is to it to just use your pc, I had a nightmare only because I didn't want to use my main Google account and Youtube linking is a mess but now I use the Youtube plugin almost daily.

alright sorry if that came off snarky, appreciate the advice.
i'll try with latest from SVN later.

anyone else using Xbmc4xbox? i've confirmed it can play RTMPE videos and use (most? all?) dharma plugins now.

Have you seen the new iphone app for iphone? Means there's now iphone streams - maybe can tap into those now a-la iplayer?

there is loads of apps on the iphone, sky, hbo, sling, hulu plus, this does not mean you can magically make a plugin for xbmc. plus the streams would probably be low quality anyway.

I have got a 4oD addon working, with play and download options (as long as you have a recent rtmpdump and rtmplib installed).

Nice work!

Playing very nicely here within XBMC with latest nightly.

You might want to create a [RELEASE] thread...

Lovely work, comfirmed working on nightly build of Windows and ATV1, only problem I had to repack the zip file after downloading.

Extract the files from the zip. Enter the plugin.video.4od-1.0.0 folder, within this you will see a plugin.video.4od folder. Compress the folder and run install for zip and it work perfectly.
For those that find these steps too hard you can download it from here:

Thanks again, I like the download or play options, when you select the file. Might be good too, to be able to select the option in settings.

Work great! Thanks! Don't understand the "path to rtmpdump" for when download is needed but would only be streaming stuff anyway.

Fantastic work. All good on IOS and openelec. Can't seem to get it to go on the latest windows nightly. Anyone have the same? I did do a un-install and re-install but no joy

I've been trying to get this to work on XBMC Live Dharma -
successfully installed from zip (downloaded from this link http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31328853/plugin.video.4od.zip as described above).

When I try to stream a program the working arrow spins for a few seconds then nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? Probably won't be doing much downloading but would be interested in info re getting rtmpdump installed bearing in mind I have limited Linux expertise!
