On  new tv box- android 7.1.2, kodi- 17.6, after giving a name for a source and click ok,(waiting along time),got the note: couldn't retrieve directory info...

The Mucky Duck repository is on the Kodi banned addons list. Ergo, subsequent addons are not welcome here on this forum.
Either you remove the repository from your Kodi setup and provide us a properly debug-enabled kodi.log, or you can seek assistence elsewhere.

Sorry- but i can't recognize it on the adonns list.
I tried to add this source but after i got the mesege about the "unable to connect"- i canseled it .
