I've been searching everywhere to find a "download the software" link, button reference or anything else and can't find anything. Is there reallys uch a thing as an XBMC for Ubuntu application, or is this just an idea people are developing?

This is a serious question, I'm not being sarcastic.

Yes.

Add the following to the bottom of /etc/apt/sources.list

# XBMC
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ubuntu gutsy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ubuntu gutsy main

# apt-get update
# apt-get install xbmc

If you search for xbmc, you will also find skins that are available as well.
