I like to keep my genres nicely organised, and currently manually delete those I find superfluous (crime, mystery, and adventure for example).

At the moment I have to run an external app (XBNE) after importing movies to delete the unwanted genres.

I was just wondering if there would be any possible workaround, that would "suppress" these unwanted genres - ie prevent them from ever being added to any imported movie.

If there were a XBMC system file or something that could be edited to achieve this that would be awesome!

There's really no way to do this at all, aside from using an external editor like you're already doing.
