XBMC Ubuntu PPAs (precompiled PPA builds for Ubuntu)
denmich1997 Wrote:ok, I will and get back.

I had this problem as well. But it was not related to xbmc at all. I had already setup Hardy and ran all my updates, got the system stable as I am running this on a ASUS M3N78-VM with a 8200 Chipset on a stock hardy kernel without all_generic_ide in the grub boot menu. I am also running the latest Nvidia driver 173.14.12.

Anyhow, I installed Lirc .0.8.3 from ctl-alt-f2 and when I rebooted my xorg.conf file was pooched and I had to build a basic low res low refresh. I did it booted hardy and then I had the same problem.

I deleted all my xorg.conf files from /etc/x11 including backups fail safes etc.. and then rebooted it came back up at full resolution but was still not running the nvidia 173.14.12 driver but the restricted glx driver. So I went to a command line at root and ran nvidia-xconfig and then rebooted and all is well again and xbmc loads up just fine. My XBMC is the latest Atlantis ppa for hardy and by the way it seems to be just fine. I have not shared any files yet but everything is perfect otherwise. DVD playback from the installed drive works just fine. Time Zone I see is fixed, iec958 is working for passthrough just fine as well. Thanks Devs.

So I am not sure if something in the latest Lirc install is overwriting the xorg.conf file or just in the order I installed things.

but that is how I fixed it.

Dave

hi Guys,

Having followed the PPA intructions for installing XBMC (on my hardy mythbuntu server), I am getting a blank window when starting the XBMC application (Applications -> Multimedia -> XBMC)

I am running on an AMD64 system
uname -a
Linux tengu3 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Aug 20 17:53:40 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

dpkg --get-selections | grep xbmc
xbmc install
xbmc-common install
xbmc-eventclients-common install
xbmc-eventclients-dev install
xbmc-eventclients-j2me install
xbmc-eventclients-ps3 install
xbmc-eventclients-wiiremote install
xbmc-skin-pm3 install
xbmc-web-pm3 install

(NOTE:xbmc-scripts is missing - I could not get this to install is this critical?)

apt_get update and apt_get upgrade has been run with no change.

Is XBMC supported on AMD64? If so any help on what may be causing my blank screen would be much appreciated.

Thanks - Matthew.

I have a feeling you used the svn repo? It's been disabled during feature freeze and won't be reenabled until Atlantis is released. A bug similar to what you're describing has been fixed since and should be in the alpha4 release in the hardy repo. The scripts are not needed BTW, they were only samples, nothing useful.

Hi There,
Thanks for getting back to me on this, 'fraid I am not 100% clear on what you are saying.

these are the software sources I used.

http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-hardy/ubuntu
http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-hardy/ubuntu

Would these have been updated with the Patch to fix this bug?

Should I have been using these PPA?
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-svn/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-svn/ubuntu hardy main

Or are you saying that I cant use the PPA and need to compile the code myself? If so pls could you point me to a thread that correctly shows me how to do this.

Thanks for your help - Matthew.

Hi There,
I'm running ubuntu on an old PowerPC 1.8ghz imac.
Is there a simple way to get XBMC working for powerpc?

Or alternatively where is the source files? (so that I can add it to my sources.list and recompile)

has anyone tried making for powerpc? I'm still relatively new to linux.

Thanks in advance for your help, and thanks to the XBMC team for a wonderful product.

Seems I didn't scroll to the end of the thread for compliation instructions. Sorry.

Would be interested to find out if anyone has been successful with powerpc?

Thanks again.

I don't think anyone on the team have a PPC Linux box to compile the debs currently, although the source code should IIRC in theory work on PPC now.

I suggest trying http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW...ource_code
If you get it working it's always wonderfull to hear of it, we definatly hope to support PPC aswell.

Cheers,
Tobias

Hi Guys,
I've recompiled on my PPC and am looking for some assistance with the ./compile and make errors. Is this the best place to post the errors and request assistance?

I am having the same issue, did you solve it?

I Installed xbmc_8.10a4-hardy3_amd64.deb from the "team-xbmc-hardy" ppa (not the "team-xbmc-svn").

When running I get:

/usr/share/xbmc/xbmc-xrandr: cannot find mode 0x4e
CRITSEC[0x11f3d48]: Trying to enter destroyed section.
CRITSEC[0x11f3d48]: Some other thread trying to leave our critical section.

and XBMC opens with just a black screen.

When I compile myself following the instructions here and run:

/XBMC/BUILD$ ./xbmc.bin

I get:

/XBMC/BUILD/xbmc-xrandr: cannot find mode 0x4e
Fatal error encountered, aborting

Hi there
I have been using xbmc for xbox for years now (great work) and i have recently started playing with the linux version. This is in a attempt to get around the hardware limitations with the xbox CPU and HD TV.

Now i'm not sure if this has been before but i am tying to get both mythtv frontend and xbmc on playstation 3 hardware.

I'm not sure if the beta build support the power PC(playstation3) cpu and if it does what PPA / build should i be using?

Thanks in advanced!

Welcome to the forum.

At the top of the page, there is a Search link. Type in PS3 and you will get quite a few results.

Thanks.

Is there going to be any .deb files for Intrepid too?

I mean it's released soon. Very soon. So it would be good to see if there are any regressions at all.

There is currently a problem compiling for intrepid on launchpad, we're trying to get it worked out.
