XBMC Ubuntu PPAs (precompiled PPA builds for Ubuntu)
Henkske Wrote:sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Hi, I have tried to avoid that "dist-upgrade" not to break
a working base system. Unfortunately that may be the way
to go.

In 10 years of using debian/ubuntu on a daily basis on multiple systems it has broken my system only once (after I added repositories of a newer version of ubuntu to my sources.list). So I think you're safe Smile

Yes, all went ok, thank You. I had some bad experiences earlier with
lirc and some other functionality.

I tried several times to install XBMC since the Natty release and always needed a hack because natty is not on the ppa... Ubuntu 11.10 is almost out and we don't have ppa for the 11.04?

Is it true? Bug http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/11488 is being ignored?
Am I getting crazy??

If there is any problem, I would like to be aware of it and help to document it on the wiki, or even try to fix it.

Thanks!

Use the unstable PPA on natty.

So Oneiric is out.

Seems like the PPA is not maintained or why is there still no Natty Builds?

Is the Maverick Version working with Oneiric?

Looks like the PPA isn't maintained anymore. For natty there's only nightlies, which also work on oneiric. The maverick packages should work too.

Too bad Sad

Maybe someone with skills will create a new PPA?

Ubuntu is still the biggest Linux Distribution would be a shame if there are no packages for the new release.

Hello,

I tried to follow the guide but i am not able to install xbmc. I am on oneiric and i keep getting an error saying that oneiric dists not found. I tried to use the natty ppa and it keeps failing to install xbmc-data due to corrupt files or something.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

apt-get clean, then apt-get update should fix that. I installed nightly on oneirirc yesterday and it was fine.

Right now I'm looking at sorting out new PPAs for nightly + stable. Could take a couple days.. there's a long queue due to the release of oneiric.

Thanks Jfgi i will try that tonight. Yesterday was my first day with Linux so it took me a while and lot of reading on the forums. I thought i was close but apparently not. I will start following this thread so i get more updates Smile

Nice one Hellfire.

It seems odd to me that the official repository is not being updated. Is there some other, less well known, installation process?

Nice Job HellFire, but your Build doesn't play any movies for me. When i select a movie and press play, nothing happens Sad

There's a new build submitted that fixes it, though for some reason it hasn't published 64bit yet (and the build completed 7hrs ago).

* Edit: Done now. Seems publishing got broken yesterday.. there was a queue of builds from the last 3 days.
