H.265 Artifacts on Fire TV/Kodi
#1
Hi there,

After the recent purchase of an upgraded set-up, I have started encoding videos as H.265, both UHD and HD content.  Generally all has been going well, but I am finding certain titles are resulting in weird video artifacts when played back on Kodi on a Fire TV 4K (I think the first generation).  I've been a bit random in my approach - often re-encoding the videos as H.264, but today I spent a bit more time looking into it.

The video in question was Start Trek TNG episode in 1080, initially converted as a H.265/MKV and when played back on the Fire TV, the video was split into offset horizontal lines across the screen.  I also have a Shield TV also running the same version of Kodi in another room and that played back the same video without any issues.

It's obviously not a Kodi issue, but rather something to do with the Fire TV, but it is not consistent.  Sometimes the issues occur on SD content, sometimes HD content.  Any help or observations would be greatly appreciated!
