media playback: hide control-/status overlays after a certain period of time
#1
hi all,

while playing back media (audio/video/pictures) one comes into situations to fade in the overlays on the top or the bottom of the screen. it would be nice to fade these out again automatically after a certain period of time if no further user interaction has happened.

purpose: better screensaving / avoid burn in effect / comfortable while watching a movie / support general lazyness

personally i often tend to forget to disable the overlays again while listening to music in the vis.screensaver mode.

timing examples:
- for videos/pictures: top (5-10sec) | bottom (10-20sec)
- for music (vis screensaver): top (5-10sec) | bottom (20-30sec)
- maybe also for the player controls in the middle of the screen that one can call e.g. in the homescreen: 30-60 sec.

maybe it would be a nice feature to integrate some kind of a sticky button into overlays that would allow to fix or unfix the overlay.

what do you think of this?

best regards,
einhänder

So the user specifically brings up information they want, and then while they're reading it, it goes and fades out?

I don't get why this is needed?

let's create a nui (neural user interface).

joking aside. maybe it would be sufficient enough to raise the timeout to a certain amount of time that is enough for everyone to read through all given information. let's say a duration of 10-20 min. for a "no user input timeout" should really be enough. on the other hand this would make sure that overlays won't stay in the foreground forever in case that someone forgets to disable them again to avoid lcd burn in effects.

The music information dialog is designed to stay on screen all the time if the user wants it.
