Web server problem (no web folder?) in Ubuntu PPAs
#1
Question
Hi!

Just found out about XBMC today - it's great!! Big Grin

I used the deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-hardy/ubuntu hardy main repository and installed everything XBMC related. Everything worked out of the box on my Hardy installation (2.6.24-19-generic). But...

I cannot locate the web folder. It seams as if it does not exist at all. I installed an apache2 with ASP support and got .asp-files from a webserver-skin up and running. But the default.asp is nowhere to be found in the /usr/share/xbmc/ directory and the webserver-skin files complain that xbmcCmds is not available. Huh

Did I miss anything? Thanks for you help!

No you didn't miss anything. I did :-)

But if you update your xbmc version now, you will have the web directory.

Wow, that's service! Big Grin thanks!!

But... there was no update available. I even reinstaled it - no web folder.

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-hardy/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc-hardy/ubuntu hardy main

Do I have to wait some time for the repositories to become up to date?

ahh, sorry, the update is on the SVN PPA

Since it's a recent change you won't be able to find it on the stable PPA.

well - XBMC ist now running in SVN - and: there is a web folder! Nod

but the default.asp file exits with an error compiling ("else if" should be "elsif", "//" produces errors, ...) and the xbmcCmds required by other (running) webserver-skins is not within the web-folder.

(but I guess thats an SVN issue?)

Anyway - thank you very much! I will just wait for the next stable release including a web folder! Wink

hmm.... that's strange. I suppose you are running Hardy as well?
Where is the xbmcCmds-file supposed to be?
Even in the default.asp provided by the SVN repository there are links like

Code:
<a href="/xbmcCmds/xbmcForm?command=stop" ...

...but no file named xbmcCmds in the web-folder's root directory. Huh

Yes, I am running Hardy 32bit.

Well, I didn't even have to know the content of the ASP file. It just worked out of the box Undecided .
Then it depends on where it's failing for you . Obviously I didn't test every single link. I browsed my videos and launched 2 of them on XBMC.

Currently I am at work and I can't test it.

How are you trying to use it ?

I turned the webserver on in XBMC ,
then the port to something > 1024 .
and then I go to a browser to
Code:
[url=http://localhost/]http://localhost:port[/url]

xbmcCmds references our webapi which has been working the whole time. The webui just uses this api and makes it pretty for users.

I guess I just did to much manually. (installed an perl-ASP interpreter for my apache2 and linked the web-folder to my apache2 folder, all port 80)

Just got home, but I'll try the "port to something > 1024" out-of-the box thing first thing in the morning. Smile
