Already been requested.... DRM pretty much nips it in the bud.

Rainbow  Sky Player Integration

Hey everyone,

With the announcment of Sky Player & Xbox 360 integration, it got me thinking- has anyone looked into making a plugin for using this service?

It allows you to watch live TV or a whole host of back logged programs.

This sounds like something Boxee would do, but being able to watch sky tv through XBMC would be amazing Smile

Surely it's pointless as you'd have to have a Sky subscription in the first place anyway?

I think you need one.... although remember, not everybody has Sky+ to record Sky, so in theory, there's still some value to this...

As far as I know... and this depends on the definition of Sky Player (there's an 'on demand' and 'live' part).

The on demand version uses MS-DRM and the live part uses Silverlight. Neither of these are cross platform, so this doesn't really add much to the case for Sky player.

Plus... finally, Sky Player is using Kontiki for content delivery (a sort of p2p delivery service)... which means the plugin would have to take all this into account..... not feasible in my opinion.

I'd love to see this as well. I'm currently considering using it on my 360 but it's limited to only one console. If the 360 could mimic a browser I'd be able to use it at my term time and home address without transporting my console ;-)

And I think possibly the the DRM might be overcomable as 'Novell Moonlight' is an open source alternative which impliments microsoft silverlight on linux and enables firefox to stream Sky Player under ubuntu. Also I think anyone can access the Sky News stream....

Problem may be does someone with the skill have access to the service....

Of course it would only be useful to those of us with sky subscritions. But still!

I would also like to see a plugin for this. I have sky at my home address but I live away from home for work. I can use sky player on my pc while away but it would be superb to have this intergrated into xbmc.

Looks like this may actually be possible sooner rather than later due to updates in Moonlight 3.0:

You can pay for a Sky player subscription without having a dish too although it's quite pricey, it may suit some people.

I'd be very interested in this too. For me, it allows me to get Sky Sports for free at my uni house using our home subscription, so it's fantastic!
