update yes can confirm that setting te gui to 1080 works and content is being played back in its native resolution. I didnt realise that Kodi upscaled te interface when changing te display settings to 4K but it appears that it does and then my tv seems to upscale it further which is why the gui appearing so huge and unusable on my tv's
