Question  Xbmc + dsl? Post: #1
Hi, I have been away from XBMC for a few months now... But oh my how its changed!

I was wondering if XBMC is able to run on DSL or can it run as its own OS? I have tried to find out but am confused with all the Ubuntu topics.

I just feel me installing a whole new ubuntu system would be wasting space and installing loads of things id never use...

Thanks for any help i may get Smile

You can try to get it compiled on DSL. Just be aware that you're basically on your own and will have to hunt up all the dependencies. XBMC never has, nor will it ever, be its own OS.

I see. Ok well now i understand.

I remember when the XBMC Linus was new I asked if it would be its own OS and I got a "Not sure" answer. Now i know.

What is the smallest Linux OS with XBMC? And are there any LiveCDs?

There's a liveusb image here. Can probably be tweaked to get to work on a cd.

Or, you can probably put in any ubuntu install cd (which is a livecd) then just install xbmc via ppa.

return null;

You can run it off a livecd it's dead easy - do a search for xdsl on google. You can install the two things side by side but I think it's easier to run it off the cd. There is a way you can add extra apps to the cd to - google will give you the answers!

He's probably only joined to make that comment, in either case, what althekiller said still and probably will always be true.
