Can't connect to Network using SMB 1 settings, Matrix and Shield
#1
Hello,

For some reason, My install of Matrix can no longer connect to my network using smb1 when a few days ago it could. I have the settings set for smb1 in the smb settings. I can browse my network from the same Shield using a file browser. Any help is appreciated.

Just in case anyone cares. I kind of fixed the issue. I had to undo the SMB settings in Kodi, then set them again. It is like after a few days the smb settings refuse to work so they need to be reset. Will see how it goes within the next few days.

Sticking to SMBv1 is not the best of choices to make. That version has so many security holes, it ended up being used in the worldwide WannaCry attack.

So if you can upgrade whatever SMB server you have, please do so.

The server that I use is Windows 7. Don't think that I can use smb3. I am not hiding any top secret documents, so security is not a top priority for me.

Thank you,

I encountered the same/similar issue after having upgraded from 18 to 19.
Weird thing here is that my old nas share remained accessible but as I tried sharing a folder on a laptop (running up to date w10) I was unable to share it for Kodi, where it was shared for Shield.
To be sure I enabled smb 'lanman-workstation' settings in the registry (gpedit.msc) to allow guest clients but alas.

What did work was setting a separate login account as to use a username:password in the Kodi .xls paths.
Have not checked if this workaround works with using a path without U: P (just don't enter anything before the path?).

Ok enough talk!

Source for info, especially this post.

To be sure I added the nas path to the source.xml in the 'files' entry also.

At the moment I am unsure if simply using a secured account would have worked also, without the need of the password.xls addition.
Took enough effort to get this workaround Wink

I also, after upgrading to Matirx I can not reach any SAMBA file servers. I am running Android TV on Nvidia Shield. The SAMBA file server mounted on my Linksys router. Kodi is now worthless for my use.

Problems I am experiencing:
1) During upgrade Kodi could not find the shares
2) After upgrade Browse feature does not work for setting up a share
3) setting up manually obtain message (incorrect parameter)
4) When setting up shares, using screen soft keyboard, key board key for ">?#" key access brings up foreign language character set and not the special characters as #%*? etc.
5) with Matirx and past release, when in settings>services>network, the IPV4 Gateway address is incorrectly stated (sure that it is actually correct, displayed incorrectly), but setting is displayed correctly in Nvidia Shield network status - is this going to be fix?

Questions:

1) When upgrading to Matirx on Android TV, is it a most to remove shares and re-add - I recall prompts during upgrade of this nature?
2) What is up with Keyboard and the "?>#?" characters not being displayed
3) Is it possible that the Android install has the path characters "//" and "\\" confused when setting up a SAMBA share? I cannot try since soft Key board provided in matrix has a bug and does not display the "\" character and others.

- Keyboard; click the 'shift' button. This was new to me also and showed special characters. Also, use the Shield TV app (phone etc) to provide keyboard/mouse feedback.

- SMB; As you use Shield (me too, 2017) you could try to mount your nas folder in the Shield. Settings -> Device preferences -> Storage -> Mount network storage.
- Try validating the network paths using a filebrowser (I like X-plore). If that path works there but fails in Matrix, I bet it (Kodi) demands credentials (account).

I still have access to my nas share btw (red flag btw Tongue ) but as mentioned by me before your post, such was not the case for shares on another device.
So my guess is to check your nas share settings for what smb version is used/enforced if you aim at open access.
Advise is to create an account (on the nas) and set what is shared (and stop using guest/open access while we are at it).

In olders days I recall using a setting for my old qnap nas to allow easy access; 'Advanced options -> 'local master browser', allowed for the share to be accessed on the lan.

Kodi team resolved the smb share not shown in Shield TV issue (https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/19523) a week ago and the development build can show shield tv smb share as it was with Leia.
I installed the development build for Matrx (https://mirrors.kodi.tv/nightlies/androi...8a/Matrix/) and it works fine.
Hope to have official release with this fix soon. But so far, for two days, I have no issue with the development build( kodi-20210411-0d1f616c-Matrix-arm64-v8a.apk ).
