I tried this on my Nvidia Shield and it wrote over Kodi 18 when I tried to install kodi 19. Is it possible to have 2 versions?

Not without a lot of work to change the app ID within the apk file.
Even then you'll have problems with the two trying to share the same userdata (wiki) folder and addons (which won't work between v18 and v19).
