Play using... = failed to play
#1
Ok, so here is what I am trying to do... I have Kodi 19.0 installed on my Win10 PC which houses all the files.

I have Kodi 19.0 also installed on a Fire TV Cube in a 2nd room. No files but using UPnP which works great, no probs.

And I also have Kodi 19.0 installed on Fire10HD tablet. No files but using UPnP which works great, no probs.

Now I would like to use the Fire10HD tablet to browse the movies and then use the "Play using..." menu to play the file on the Fire TV Cube in the 2nd room.

Keeping up so far?.... sweeeet

Anyways, I keep getting the error message "One or more items failed to play. Check the log for more information about this message"

Ive checked all the settings on all three devices to make sure they can be remote controlled via upnp and so on..

Now I'm at a loss, if anyone has come across this and has an answer it would be much appreciated. Thanks

'Play using', is defined in the playercorefactory.xml settings and calls the player using the defined rules (I'm a little unsure if you can use a network path to select player, I've never tried this personally) and injects the target name/path to proceed. At one point there is a error call opening to play for http://10.0.0.4:1518/%25/1e15f743b2d5c8d...5dee587f1/ which is a hash for whatever you're trying to play. If my browser can't make any sense of that path, then I doubt Kodi will see it either.

I would NOT say this is impossible as with Kodi anything is possible given the effort and there's always someone around to show me that it is possible. Some observations, Kodi doesn't cast but I do remember seeing a Kodi demo showing a playing video, switched over to a tablet version to the same spot in contiguous playing in the video, and in that we see some possibilities.  You might want to explore Web interface (wiki) and use google to search Kodi control.

Thanks for the Reply.

I have noticed that if I try the "play using" the opposite way around, using the windows 10 PC (the host) it will play on the Fire10HD tablet with no errors. so I'm now wondering is it because the Fire10HD tablet and fire cube host no actual files.

This would be amazing to get working as I'm sure loads of peeps have old tablets, phones and such laying around that they could possibly use as "browser remotes".

Thanks again ;-)

Indeed, I use an older fire tablet in-combination with Yatse (wiki), even cast Kodi from my phone to my shield, there's quite a few ways to handle this, but the issue is casting the output. The playercorefactory script is looking for a playable filename.

This should work but it's not something I've ever used, to see in operation https://youtu.be/LsnGimk8uPY however that is a very old video so it's possible there maybe a bug if it doesn't work for you.

This is not true for UPnP all you need is this setting enabled https://kodi.wiki/view/Settings/Services...nP_players and Kodi auto detects UPnP players on the network which then become available via Play using.

From a quick test it looks like this feature is indeed broken on v19.0 can you raise a Issue report at https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/issues

Ok, I have opened up a bug report, hopefully I did a good enough job with explaining it (and it isn't just me Huh ) Thanks for your help with this, much appreciated.

BTW... got the Yatse (wiki) app and installed it, had to pay for the streaming and push to server but worked, so I'm cool with that. Thanks
