I've been having this problem recently. Before (in earlier versions of Kodi for Android) I was able to get new movies and tv shows scanned in a matter of a few minutes.

Now every time I scan for new movies or tv shows, the whole process takes up to 15 minutes.

I'm using the Nvidia Shield with the latest version of Kodi for Android (19.1.0)
The Shield has had all the available updates installed.

I access my files through the network via WIFI. The files are located in a server running Unraid 6.8.3. and I'm accessing them via NFS as SAMBA was slowing playback down.
Playback and other functions that access the NFS shares work flawlessly.

Every component can have its lag in the whole process. Wifi is slower than cable, SDcard write speeds can be terrible (no idea if you use them in the NvShield).

The first 22 log lines after the Videoscanner started already takes 10 minutes for some odd reason, after that things go relatively quick.
