Now Playing... (for Kodi running on all allowed platforms)...
#1
When Kodi has the "Now Playing..." at the top when audio is streamed
to or into it remotely, the album art and song name is briefly displayed
upon the screen for about 10 seconds.  Sometimes it appears after
a minute of the song's play but only displays for a short 10 seconds.
How can one extend the time the information is displayed perhaps
even for the entire duration of the song?  Whenever the cursor
hovers over the Kodi screen, the Now Playing... information appears
but of course only for 10 seconds.
I would like for the screen to show both the waveform of the audio
playing and having the information for the song remain resident on
the screen beyond the short 10 seconds. Is there a setting to extend
the time the Now Playing... song information is on the screen?

When no info is shown the i key on your keyboard will toggle info on and another press of i will toggle it off. When invoked manually the info will remain permanently displayed until you manually toggle it off. So if you want info always displayed you'll only have to press the i key the once, as even after playback is stopped, and sometime later you play something else Kodi will remember the last state it was in.

Thank you for that response. I had asked this nearly similar question months
ago and no one responded. I later discovered something on the screen "Playing Now..."
that maybe someone could relate to and that happened with your kind response.

I will try the "i" thing but I would like a way for this to be set indefinitely so
when the next song is beamed, sent to the device running Kodi in renderer mode,
that the metadata, song information, album art along with the waveform can all
be displayed without any interactions from me (using a mouse to hover over the
window, pressing a key each time, etc.).  I would like the default or set it to
always display the information for the entire duration of the song and even not have
to wait the 1 minute for the information to appear for the 10 seconds... like how it
works now.

So there is not even an option to change or extend the 10 seconds?
I would not mind that after 1 minute or so the image appears but would
like to set it to beyond 10 seconds. It would be nice to have something
similar to how some Music Videos on MTV or VH1 would work like while
the song was playing the information for the song would appear at the
bottom at the beginning of the song and near the conclusion of the song.

It would just be nice to have the information display without any
physical interaction (clicking an "I " or hovering the mouse over the window,
or pressing some back button for FireTV stick or AirTV Sling device that I use
running Kodi).  Just have the information appear on the screen from the
1 minute mark to the conclusion of the song... if not for the entire duration
of the song (beginning to end).  Thank you.

As I said before you should only have the press I key the once, then info should forever be displayed, and the state is remembered even if you completely close Kodi, so next time you play something info should display and remain with no physical interaction required. However UPnP is not something I ever use, not not sure if something could be different if Kodi is being used as a remote renderer.

thank you for the suggestion of "i".  it works well and yes it shows
the metadata or album information of the audio beamed to the device
running Kodi as a renderer mode, indefinitely --until type 'i' to toggle the mode.
when the next song is streamed to or even when closing Kodi and restarting,
the information is shown on the screen for the entire or remaining
duration of the song's play (sometimes showing up 1 minute into the song). wonderful...

the only issue maybe is that i have to have some access to a keyboard
to type the "i" so for devices like televisions or AirPlay Sling device or FireTV
or Chromecast running the Kodi app, i cannot just use the remote control to type the "i".
I have had to connect a USB (dongle for Wireless ) keyboard or a bluetooth
keyboard paired to the device.  for computers running Kodi, the computer obviously
has a keyboard. **

do you think an improvement could be made to simulate or type an "i" for
devices that use a remote control only? Or I am not sure how to invoke an
on-screen keyboard in Kodi to do that.  ** This just means i have to keep
a portable keyboard of some type handy with the portable DJ stereo and audio
appreciation listening hobby I and a few friends enjoy to type this "i". Smile

well it works, this is what i have been looking for since using kodi a year or so ago.

Can you implement this feature of typing the i for devices like Chromecast or FireTV stick devices that may
not have a keyboard input to type an "i"?

I find that I have to go through a minor inconvenience to pair a bluetooth keyboard to those
wireless streaming devices just to type an "i" to get Kodi to show the metadata continuously
beyond the 10 seconds.

Could Kodi add some type of on-screen keyboard or some option to type the "i" in this case?

Do you have a Smartphone? If you do then ypu should be able to use one of the app remotes to do this.

Well, one should not have to depend on a smartphone or external
keyboard to do this. If Kodi cannot do it , that is fine.

I had to do this again on another device. I had to link a bluetooth
keyboard just to type an "i" but could not use the remote control
for the device (Fire TV or AirTV Sling running Kodi) to type a simple i .
It just seems incomplete or something lacking that I cannot just
only use the remote control to do this simple task without having
to involve some external device to accomplish this seemingly simple
goal.
