That's weird.
As far as I can guess the plugin is failing to guess the ISO code for your XBMC language (BTW if anyone knows how to make XMBC just tell me the code I'd be grateful). Then it would send a list of [None] to the subtitles method and that blows up. I'll open an issue for that, but I don't see how it can be a regression?

More intriguingly... what language is your XBMC using (xbmc.getLanguage())?

You should be able to get around it by either disabling subtitles or setting a custom code in the preferences.

xbmc_language = xbmc.getLanguage() returns Dutch
so it fails in the get_language_code part

Thanks!
Amusingly this happens because 'Dutch' isn't a language in http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/IS..._utf-8.txt Smile Apparently the full name is 'Dutch; Flemish'. There is an obvious hack that ought to improve things, but (as you know) I started http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=163023 to ask for a better way to look up codes.

Dutch is a language on itself. However you have Flemish which is Dutch variant spoken in Belgium.

This is what XBMC uses

Ah, I should have realised that ';' is a list separator in that file. I can parse it properly now Smile

Ah yes, I was't sure if that was canonical. And you'd need to update the mapping if new translations were added.

I meant to ask for a better mechanism for a while but just didn't get around to it. Good news that it is happening now.

Any chance for also adding browsing by tags besides themes?

Also noticed not all the information is filled in for the videos but could be you can't really get that info all the time.

Definitely worth looking into:

It's worth reviewing what can be made available, but as you say there are some limitations.

A week ago, my RASPBMC install updated itself. The TED talks add-on has had stuttering audio on analog and HDMI since. I just did a new RASPBMC install onto a brand-new SD card. The TED add-on has the identical problem. Other video add-ons seem to work fine (all I've tried anyway- YouTube, PBS, CBS News, and a number of others).

I just tried it on about a two month-old version of OpenElec and the TED add-on still works fine.

The symptom is an approximately once per-second interruption, or slow-down (freqquency droops) in the audio (sort-of like a tick) for maybe 10mSec each second. The audio is still intelligible, but it's an annoyance that seems to affect only the TED add-on.

The video seems to stop or slow down in sync with the audio problem. Since these are mostly people standing, delivering a talk, it was hard to tell.

TED Talks plugin hasn't been updated for a while, but it's possible that you didn't get the last update until RASPBMC updated.
Once a video is playing, the plugin should be out of the way and playback is handled by XBMC/the OS. The only new feature which might have affected things is that it is now possible to set the playback quality. Therefore, it might be worth going to the TED plugin preferences and reducing the video quality.

Otherwise, I'd suggest downloading the TED video (using a browser) and testing whether it stutters in XBMC, to eliminate any possibility of foul play from the TED plugin. If it still stutters, then try to get help from the main XBMC guys as it would seem to be a core playback issue.

Hope that helps a bit? :S

It was the quality setting- many thanks for pointing that out!

Hi,

I have exactly the same issue here, but changing the video quality settings did not solve the problem.
Although I must say that changing to a lower video quality does improve audio playback somewhat.
High q video sounds like: .........bla.................bla................bla
Low q sounds like: .....blabla.............blabla...........blabla

On both 64 and 600 kbps no noticeable video stuttering.
No audio stutter on any other plugins either. Only TED.

Weird.
It could be the plugin, but I feel it is more likely that it is a codec/playback issue not directly related to the plugin. Have you tried downloading a video using a web browser, and playing that on RPi (I assume you are also on RPi?)?

I'm using 4.1.9 and I get an error in xbmc.log when loading the list of latest talks

Code:
T:140128643254016 WARNING: GetDurationFromMinuteString <runtime> should be in minutes. Interpreting '00:15:55' as 0 minutes
This type error for every episode. I'm running Frodo 12.2. Sounds like a bug with the addon?
