Solved Has the Android development been abandoned?

@fuzzard: I pulled the log, this was an upgraded install from 19.4 to 20.0 Beta 1.  This is a FireStick 4K Max so I believe its Android 9.

The startup fails here:

2022-11-14 23:00:12.332 T:8640  critical <general>: addon 'kodi.binary.instance.game' not installed or not enabled.
2022-11-14 23:00:12.332 T:8640  critical <general>: CServiceManager::InitStageTwo: Unable to start CAddonMgr

Kodi still has startup issues occasionally, which requires a force stop (for me at least, others apparently have to clear the cache).

The issue I have reported 22069 (GH issue)  is present on all devices with Android 5.x.  Indeed the PR  22083 (PR)refers to only Android 5.x  As far as I have tested, it is not  present with Android 6x , 7x,  8x, 9x , 11x.

Fire TV 4K is based on FireOS  v6.x.x.x which is in turn based on Android 7.x, so there should be no problems.

I have a Fire TV 4K Max based on FireOS  v7.x.x.x/Android 11 and Kodi v20 Alphax & Beta1 start-up w/o  problems.
To be honest I have not tested to much upgrading from previsous version. I always prefer to start with a clean install wjhen testing.

Cheers
The Fire TV 4K (Fire TV 2nd Edition) is based on Android 5.1.
The Fire TV Stick 4K is based on Android 7.1.

They're different devices. The earlier Fire TV has an MicroSD card, USB port and more grunt.

Ok, if I understand, you have the Fire TV box, 2nd edition,  codenamed "Sloane", model AFTS, which is also 4K capable,  based on Android 5.

Then most probably there is the same problem I detected on the Fire TV Stick 2nd edition, model AFTT. A logcat (not Kodi log) might be useful to confirm.

20b1, and previous,  crashs also on a Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime smartphone with Android version 5.1.1 because the issue affects all devices based on Android 5, not only FTV's.
