Surround sound headphones with Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019) /TV optical out
#1
I've been using Sennheiser HD185 headphones for a while using my tv optical out and have been pretty happy - not sure if i need to go directly from the Shield to get surround audio (on capable headphones)so thought i should add that here.
I've read that its possible to get surround sound/ Atmos/DTS via software or hardware.

I'd love to upgrade to something with surround sound if possible, living room speakers are not an option unfortunately so hoping there is an alternative solution.
I've read in older threads that there are Sennheiser HD 175S headphones that might work but they seem to be discontinued now and its not clear to me if they will pick up ATMOS or DTS anyhow.

Has anyone any suggestions/recommendations?

DTS-HD and TrueHD (where atmos is embedded) cannot be used over optical

DTS (not -HD) is designed to be over optical but most devices will require passthrough

Thanks, aside from optical input are there any headphones that do this using some other input?

Thanks, so looking at that it's a non starter on any Android device. I need to get a nuc or other windows box and license it for Dolby. I'll stick with my current headphones for now so as I'm happy with the Shield as is.

For the longest time I have wished to try Audeze Mobius with a Shield, to see if their surround virtualization with head tracking works with it. Never had a chance. Except for Atmos and DTS-X they work great on a Windows HTPC (on those two formats they simply virtualize the TrueHD and DTS-HD 7.1 content).
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first (usually it's enough to follow instructions in the second post).

You can try with a xbox one s/x  (optical output),used for about ~100€/$,so you can have dolby for atmos headphones/ DTS:X for headphones.
