The first few screens say it will work with a 1 gig jump drive, but when you select one it says 2 gig required.

The fact is that currently, XBMC will even work on a 512MB flash, but we have to plan for the future so we decided to set the minimum requirement to 2GB as an insurance, (otherwise you would probably get a little more than annoyed when you would have to go out and buy a bigger USB flash storage drive once it becomes time to upgrade), and you have to remember that all the databases, thumbnails, album covers, movie posters, TV Show banners, and FanArt are all cached on the XBMC partition, then add the upcoming ability to download skins, scripts and plugins directly from XBMC and you will fill up 1GB more quickly than you might think, this is why the minimum requirement is 2GB but we recommended 4GB.
Besides, a 2GB USB flash memory stick is not that expensive these days, and getting harder to even find ones in that it only 1GB. Also, the larger the drives are the more modern technology the usually contain, which normally makes the larger drives have faster read and write throughput and response time than smaller drivers.

Joking, we realized it and amended the script to be consistent already! Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting. I just had a 1 gig sitting around and it was quicker to backup than any of my larger ones. I was just letting everyone know that the screens weren't consistent, saying a gig is going to work, then requiring 2 is pretty lame. I backed up the 1 gig then wiped it, booted the cd tried to create the image, only to be told it wasn't going to work. I then had to reboot, restore, backup a 2 gig, wipe it, reboot. Wasted a good 15 minutes, which sucked because the only reason I was making the image at all was to look for bugs, to help make the product better. |

since the current release will fit on a 1 gig drive
-boot the cd to option 3 -when fluxbox loads use right click to open xterm -you want to edit the file /ulivesr/bin/mkLiveusb.sh sudo nano /usr/bin/mkLiveUSB.sh -scroll down to about line 98 where there is an if statement change the value 2000 to 1000 or just comment out the whole if statement warning you must have enough room on your device to fit the whole install i used the biggest option for the free space question |

Check for max_sizeGB=2 in installXBMC.sh and change it to a 1. This will make it possible to install on a 1GB stick.
