Mini-itx issue w/Nvidia 8200 graphics
#1
The parts just arrived in the mail for a new mini-itx system I'm going to set up for my parents LCD tv, although an appletv might be a better option now

Here's the setup:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400 Black edition
JNC62K-LF motherboard w/Nvidia MCP78S chipset NVIDIA GeForce 8200 gpu
2GB Adata Ram
2GB Kingston SD card attached to PNY USB reader
Samsung USB 8x DVD writer/reader(for testing)
Apex MI-100 case

Problem:
If I attempt to boot from either CD or SD card and select either option 1 or option 3 I quickly get a black screen after loading vmlinuz and intrd0.img, then a third one that flashes very quickly and then is gone

Is this an xorg problem?

try to boot typing safe instead of 0 1 2 3 and pay attention to the kernel messages

thanks for the quick reply, for some reason these forums had a problem with my other username/pass/email

here's what comes up:

Checking 'hlt' instruction... OK.
SMP alternatives: switching to UP code
Early unpacking initramfs... done
ACPI: Core revision 20070126
ACPI: Looking for DSDT in initramfs... error, file /DSDT.aml not found.

Just my luck, I was reading a post either from Joel on Software or somewhere else about ACPI in linux and the problem of APM.

I attempted to disable ACPI in bios to see if I could get any further, but I encounter two places where it hangs. Off USB flash once it reloads the USB 2.0 drivers it can't find where the install source is and off an IDE drive it hangs at

Loading LIRC modules
Reloading OpenBSD Secure Shell server's configuration sshd

have you tried a plain Ubuntu LiveCD on that?
