ccXgui no longer available to download anywhere?

Question
Ive found this app very frustrating, purely becuase I cannot find its existance anywhere on the net. Im using this as SMB is rooted on Vista. Its working fine, I just wanted to see if there was a newer version.

There are no links what-so-ever on this wiki page for the app: http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=XBMSP

then theres google.....

news: http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=5792

then theres the X-S thread: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=218883

which also says Homepage is @ http://ccxgui.xboxmediacenter.de/ which is dead.

Couple of questions:
  • Who owns the app?
  • Wheres the homepage?
  • What is the latest version?
  • Where can I get the latest version?
  • IF not, are there any better alternatives ?

Im sure this will be of assistance to many people.

Cheers

IIRC, the 'ccxgui' project was cancelled by the developer that maintained it
furthermore if IIRC he also lost his sourcecode

Although many people (on the team) disagree with me (like Gamester17), IMHO for streaming over the internet and in your LAN, SMB (aka. Microsoft Networking) still works best (and I have done extensive testing with it).
- FTP has too many freezing/hang-problems, at least over the internet;
- uPnP is still too buggy IMHO and certainly too insecure for internet use;
- XBMS works pretty well too but only when you use the Linux ccxstream server AFAIK. The protocol is a little more efficient than SMB they say, but I can't make much of a difference. Unfortunately the XBMSP-servers available for both Windows and Linux are limited and unmaintained AFAIK.

rorted? You mean "supported", I'm guessing? SMB is the protocol name which is called "Microsoft Networking" on any Windows version since Windows3. This includes Windows Vista. Simply "share" some part of your harddrive and you can access it with XBMC.

sorry lol, rorted as in , screwed!

I tried VISTA w/ SAMBA a while ago when i first installed vista and never worked. Some hunting around proved that maybe xbmc needed to be updated. It is all ok now?

rorted -> that's a word I didn't knew yet (English is not my native tongue). Anyway SMB support has been rock-solid for ages in XBMC. I guess you need to look at a proper configuration of the SMB-client in XBMC (workgroup etc.) and your Vista machine should allow file-sharing (also in its firewall)....

sorry might be an aussie term...oops

well i might give it another shot eventually.....but i remember when i first installed vista, i was ganna go back to XP purely because i couldn't stream to XBMC via SMB lol.
