WOW! is this the killer Hardware for XBMC

Well, I am eating my shoes. I have installed unbuntu minimal (cli) install 9.04 (also tried 9.10) but I still keep getting i/o freezes. This is the worst errr you can get. The guys in China are trying to help but nothing concreet sofar. they sell the computer with a guarantee money back in the first 2 weeks if there is a defect and you have not changed the original (software) configuration (which I did because the freezing was also in the origanl system I got).

Anyway I am stuck with a brilliant computer but which freezes for a couple of seconds all the time. No solution (I think I can install windows 7 and not have this). So lets hope I am the only sucker here and it is not a hardware issue that they have in all their systems....The freezes look like this.

I installed 9.04 and 9.10 (many times over the last couple of days) even the newest alpha kernels....but to no avail. I am just hoping that some of the companies enginers can duplicate the error and they can change their hardware in the compu.
thanks.

PS3Killer:

don't worry.

The company is very helpful. They agreed to ship my unit back and replace it. They have recognized the problem. Hopefully yours is already "fixed". I have been discussing the issue with Cy. You should refer to this issue and he will know about it and hopefully your unit will have the fix already. It is still a beautiful piece of equipment.

I have also found that the issue is recognized on the bug forum and it seems hardware specific:

This must be due improper reverse-engineering of Intel chips. Laugh
Seriously. I hope it get fixed for you, mate.

This (Lucida TV II) is built on the new NVIDIA ION architecture shown at the conference back in June (they are also selling the MB directly, look for it sold under Inno3D). You should start seeing many of these boxes very soon.

Note: Yes, it looks similar to the current ION, until you look closer.

IMHO you are wrong. It isn't the long awaited ION2-Chipset what is described here. It's only the normal ION-Chipset.

Does anybody know Myka ION? The big advantage of this particular solution is that it really can retire the good old Xbox without having to upgrade your (analogue)TV.
This machine can connect through RGB or Composite in combination with TOSLINK or Cinch Stereo as well as HDMI 1.3.

Pricing starts at $379,- and they ship worldwide.

I also like the idea of passive cooling (they put the DVD to the bottom, so heatpipes using the case for cooling not like in ASRock boxes.
Still I'd rather wait for what the Boxee HW box is all about.
...7th of Dec... is less than a month.

the guys at Lucidatech have been very very helpful in providing the installation files for the remote as it is not supported out of the box with Lirc. They mailed me the relevant lircd.config and hardware.config plus the make files Lirc- 0.8.6 -lucida.tar.bz2

Howto (works for ubuntu 9.04 & 9.10):

1.install lirc

1)apt-get install lirc (this step will install some ubuntu’s file for lirc)

2)tar xvfj lirc- 0.8.6 -lucida.tar.bz2

3)cd lirc- 0.8.6 -lucida ; ./configure.sh ; make; make install

2.install config file

1)copy “lircd.conf.lucidatv 2” to /etc

2)copy “hardware.conf” to /etc/lirc/

3)cd /etc/lirc/ ; ln –s ../lircd.conf.lucidatv2 lircd.conf

3.restart system and config application support lirc

...will try tonight....
