XBMC audio question (Easiest way to get HDMI audio working with XBMC)
#1
So I've been doing alot of searches and reading over the past week.

It seems there's alot of talk about playing back 1080p, and it would seem that an e8400 on either Windows or Linux is the solution.

But, I can't find much info on how audio works in XBMC, in particular what's the easiest solution for getting Audio working over HDMI.

I'm going to build a HTPC for 1080p playback, (e8400), but I have not clue what the best route for audio over HDMI is.

I plan to connect the HTPC to my Panasonic TH-50PZ800U, using HDMI via a Onkyo TX-SR876.

Suggestions for getting audio working over HDMI?

If I'm not mistaken, xbmc just sends audio out whatever you have setup to pump the audio out. I haven't looked at ALSA recently, but they were supposed to be working on audio over hdmi. Windows can do it for sure. I would head over to http://www.avsforum.com and go to their home theater pc section. There is tons of talk about audio over hdmi over there. There are a lot of complications if you want to bitstream HD audio. They will be able to help you a lot better I think.
