My receiver is AC3 Dolby Digital capable only, with KMplayer in conjunction with AC3filter I am able to select only AC3 and it will transcode any files with DTS to AC3, giving me surround sound no matter what audio is present.

Is there anyway to do this within XBMC? currently for any files with DTS I get no sound. This is the main thing stopping me choose XBMC over Media Portal.

Is there no one else with an AC3 only decoder? Can anyone confirm either way and say yes or no it can do this?

Intersting if its possible to transcode dts -> ac3, can the opposite also be possible?

it would be need and probably useful for these features to be added eventually.

ac3->dts is useless. dts->ac3 is slightly more useful (as some receivers don't do DTS).

ac3-dts is pointless but potentially in the future eac-3 -> DTS or PCM/Flac lossless/DolbyTrueHD/DTS-MA might all benefit from DTS encoding since DTS is 1.5mbit and ac3 is only 640kbit, so DTS would preserve more of the original trac.

still I can't see it being a high priority to have, most anyone who cares will either use PCM or analog output.

I know that there is a new Audio code (Master Audio ?) on its way, but what is the status of it ?

I'm one of those guys who don't have a DTS capable reciever.

Regards,

Jef

It's still a ways off. A number of other projects needing more immediate attention have been taking up some time. Keep an eye on Trac. That'll be the easiest way to know about when coding for the master audio branch continues.
