Future of IMDb.com scraping?
#1
Does the XBMC team see any future issues with IMDB scraping given the practice is generally prohibited by IMDB?
or did the team get the required permissions?

the reason i ask is i have used MyMovies for years on my HTPC and they moved away from IMDB scraping for legal reasons and started - a year ago - to develop their own database based on user input.
its incomplete and rarely has the newest content available.

i love the imdb scraping and it seems rather stupid to recreate that wheel, but that was the developers choice at MyMovies.

just hoping that doesnt happen to XBMC in a year when the rest of the HTPC people realize how much nicer the XBMC product is than the BS media center from the MS boys....

There's a themoviedb starting up which we are hoping will fill this void. Yes, scraping IMDb is not 100% kosher. Until a better alternative crops up (and until someone actually complains about it) it's the best there is.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first.
