It looks like XBMC cannot decode six channel AAC to SPDIF (I know it's a totally different format). AC3Filter under Windows will do an on-the-fly conversion but things like VLC cannot.
Is there any chance that code base is useful in integrating it into XBMC? I have heard of others who have an interest in this feature.
