Morning!
This is just a note, in case anyone else is trying to do this. I got XBMC installed on Mandriva 2009 by following the howto at:

I know its for Fedora, but it works for Mandriva as well. I was having a problem with the "fribidi/fribidi_char_sets.h: No such file or directory" and came across the site and it helped!
Thought i would share with anyone else looking at doing this
