Given that you are a seasoned "IT Professional", please grab the latest SDL.dll available here:

http://trac.xbmc.org/browser/branches/li...up/SDL.dll

and add that to your XBMC folder (overwriting the current one). Hopefully that'll make up for MS deciding not to distribute older versions of the runtime with Vista.

So I was having this same problem, but it wasn't in Vista. I did a fresh install of XP sp2 on a pc last night, with the intention of making it a media center box. I wanted to try xbmc and kept getting this error. I downloaded the .dll file and installed it in the system32 folder. Same results. Moved the file to the System folder and stopped getting that error. But, now I just get a Microsoft crash report every time I start xbmc.

Anyone else getting this after installing the .dll file ?

Funny thing, on a test setup (fresh machine, fresh Vista Ultimate x32 SP1) fresh SVN 16614 build install (no upgrade etc) it crashes on first startup....
