How can I start in windowed mode?

What means the parameter -p and -fs?

I tried it with the -fs command, but still same problem.

When I install last beta version, there is no problem, resolution is ok.

Do you mean you've tried it both with and without? I was suggesting trying it without and no fullscreen setting in advancedsettings.xml, so just
xbmc.exe -p

EDIT Also make sure you're NOT using the fullscreen resolution that looks like this:

If you're using the fullscreen resolution, switch to the nonfullscreen version and restart xbmc. If you lose overscan when XBMC is starting you're still using a resolution switching mode.

Where can I find advancedsettings.xml?

I have no advancedsetting.xml in user/app data/ roaming/xbmc/userdate

That's ok, you'd have to have created one manually for it to exist.

So no advancedsettings.xml, not launching with -fs, and you're not using the FullScreen resolution yet your screen is changing resolutions when XBMC starts? Something is amiss, let me take a look at the code and get back to you.

After a quick review, I can't see how that is possible. Can you upload your xbmc.log to pastebin.com so I can have a look?

Thx hitcher, just had to set the desktop to 60Hz (was 50 before)
Now it runs fullscreen fine

Ok. So XBMC uses 60hz by default. But if I want to have XMBC started with 50hz how can I set it up!

It doesn't use 60Hz, it lets the driver do whatever it wants. Watch #5307 for updates regarding this behavior.

I updated to the latest ATI driver for my 5770 card and I now have the infamous black box surrounding my full screen, but only while playing video..(the menus, weather etc.. are full to the edge) In windowed mode I get a full screen window (frame shows). The player doesn't like the underscan/overscan settings of the new driver... almost tempted to go back.

Actually use a tape measure, this is a must for every xbmc setup from what I've seen.

I see that.... regardless it was a problem. (note past tense) seemed to have cured itself after a few flips between native screen resolutions and a fresh start this morning, although it's not precisely at the edge... within 1/8" is close nuff. Too bad XBMC doesn't support external players ala MediaBrowser on MC, might offload that area of development.

Uh. Just to add a final note.

The black banding could be because of what overscan setting is used within Catalyst. This setting changes for each resolution and refresh rate. So the easiest thing to do is just set the overscan for whatever refresh rate and resolution you plan on using.

Once this is done, you should really have to mess with the video calibration.
