XBMC live vs. ubuntu server + XBMC
#1
Are there any advantages/disadvantages in doing a true install (to USB) of Ubuntu server and xbmc instead of just running XBMC live?

I guess boot time is shorter for the installed system.

Any optimizations when running Live? Is stuff cached to RAM at boot? Can you guide me to a page describing how the Live file system works (with the img files and so on)?

Hi,

AFAIK, no real benefits from performance point of view.

I use the Ubuntu server version, because it allows me to install on a USB with any size and filesystem I want - which is helpful for testing purposes and allows me to add some server-side software later (e.g., for audio recording from tapes and LPs).

WWell,

Installed Ubuntu CLI last night to be able to use my 8GB USB-stick and for easier install of myth later on. I noticed that a "ps -aux" gave me a much shorter list of running processes than on Live, whatever that means...
