[PatchDog]

I have a new xp machine that has nothing on it.

I install xbmc for windows on it and receive a XBMC.exe error "This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

I'm a noob to XBMC but have got it to running on a Mac and another Win PC.

Any sprecific requirements that I need to know about?

you need the MS runtime libraries msvcrt71.dll and msvcp71.dll in windows\system32.

I think they are included in the C++ redistributables package, try installing this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...laylang=en

Installing the C++ package does not work.

Uninstalled XBMC... installed C++.... Reinstalled XBMC.... Same thing.

Any other thoughts?

You need msvcr71.dll get it here:
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dl....shtml?msvcr71 and copy it to here C:\WINDOWS\system32 this will get it working assuming xbmc had a clean install. After you have put it in the system 32 folder do a full reboot of your Computer.

not going to go on a wild goose chase and download/fill pc with junk files everywhere.
if the program is meant to work it should have no files missing
it doesnt work so I either want the fix or the install file should be corrected
lol,already spent hours trying to get it to run and it does nothing
it either says it cant find missing files,download em an place em it then says it cant run with them

Then you would end up with different programs trying to install it's own version of the same file. besides that they are only 900k together and are written by microsoft.
As for getting it running it takes minutes

Then go away and use that then but xbmc is not amateurish, and don't
slag off the software just coz you are too lazy to download 2 very small files
which by the way a lot of other programs use as well. btw is that other software eithe meedios or media portal if it's media portal it's huge it needs .net framework and visual basic installed now that's what i call amaterurish. and it's a real pig to set up so is meedios.

the makers cant even be bothered to include them in their install
the other program is working,I just have to suss it's system but it at least installs and loads unlike xbmc

wild goose chases an filling your pc with junk trying workarounds to get something working is not the way to do things.
all I want is an operating media center program
xbmc fails to deliver or even install,lol
if a lot of other programs use those files the makers at least include them in their install
na it's not them but I've had no probs installing Media Portal
tho Media Portal is not stable
unfortunately people cant seem to write a simple program
