Hello,
What about developping a Http front end (close to the one existing but may be with different view mode) that not only enable live play but also download through an ftp appropriate request.
Would help to share content with friends if bandwith is not appropriate.
Would then be nice to have a send to friend option in current Front End.
While on this subject it would request a Ftp server for Windows version (i dont see it currently).
For me this would make a lot more sense than SMB file sharing.
