This line is interresting, it pops up everytime I try to load a subtitle from .rar. Auto or manually:

mindweaver, according to spiff, not the same issue as ticket 5193.
Are you sure the archvie is ok?

I saw areascout checked in an updated ffmpeg but in the areascout branch, can that be merged with the linuxport branch ?
http://trac.xbmc.org/changeset/16456

as ticket 5193 is mentioning it could be ffmpeg related

That could be an idea (or build from his branch?), otoh apparently elupus was the one that added vobsub support to ffmpeg in the first place so the chances the issues has been fixed there are probably slim.

I have never said anything about ticket 5193 or sub/idx. My problems are related to .srt located in .rar-files.

There are nothing wrong with the rarfiles, They worked perfectly before. Can't be sure about 8.10, but in beta 2 they definetaly worked.

Here is a log without a .sub in the rar-file (missed that one)

It still fails.

Here is more info from the log.

That may be, but if you look above I requested a tracker be opened on the issue.
The immediate response from frotsen was that there already is a ticket open.
You have done nothing to valdiate / contradict that.

Here is my experience regarding this problem:
If I enable "Adjust refresh rate" on my HTPC, and the refresh rate really change (e.g. when I play a 24 Hz movie), only ASS subtitles are shown. All other subtitle formats (that I have been able to test, e.g. external srt, internal srt, internal non-ASS) are not shown. They are all shown agian as soon as I disable "Adjust refresh rate". This only happens on my HTPC which is connected to a Pioneer plasma, not on my desktop computer.
If a 30 Hz video file is played on the HTPC, all subtitles are shown, even when "Adjust refresh rate" is checked, as the screen did not change its refresh rate.

Is there a trac ticket open for this issue?
http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/5193 has nothing to do (as far as I can tell) with this problem.

Two debug logs posted:
Here is the one where the error occurs: http://pastebin.com/f64fb949a
and here is the one where the srt subtitles work as they should: http://pastebin.com/f5baf47e0
Same clip and subtitles are used. The only difference is that "Adjust refresh rate" is enabled in the first log.
Should this be a new ticket?

Thank you for solving my problem, until reding this post I had no idea why I could no longer use my subtitles... must have enabled the "Adjust refresh rate" option myself some time ago. It used to work with earlier builds (I think). I now run without this option!

BTW. I have my HTPC connected to a LG 42" Plasma.
