Wait...they go on to say that they use XBMCHuh Isn't that against the GPL nature of the code?

GPL encourages you to sell your software, it's not free as in money, it's free as in beer. Boxee is a company, they have salaries to pay, R&D to fund, etc. $4M isn't _that_ much money in the grander scheme of things

From what I understand, the relationship between Boxee and Team XBMC is a good one. They even gave back some money they won for an award and are giving back improvements to the codebase.

GPL Means that if you request the source code then they have to provide it - however this is not the same for the binaries.

I think you mean it's free as in freedom, not free nessacarily free as in beer. (Hence software libre).

As for being encouraged to sell it, they encourage people who distribute it to sell it:
