HOWTO Needed: XBMC / Linux / No Window Manager

Hello.

I've been trying to find a howto that will allow one to boot linux directly into XBMC without the use of a window manager like gnome/kde/xfce

I've read some threads but they lack the step by step. I've never done something like this in all the years i have as a debian linux user.

I'm currently using Ubuntu Intrepid to run XBMC via GDM

If anyone can provide a step by step on how to run XBMC directly onto a xserver it would be greatly appreciated.

There is a thread that has this information already available.

Thanks in advanced.

One option would be to configure gdm to autologin into the user xbmc and having xbmc (user) starting xbmc (program) as "windowmanager". For this you do not need the whole installtion of gnome, just gdm and its necessary libraries.

This is also my current configuration and it works perfectly. The advantage of this setup is that you can still login as another user if necessary. In my case, there is an installation of mythtv and as there is no integration of mythtv into xbmc I need to login as mythtv to configure all tv-options or watching live-tv.

But if you want to do it really simple and do not need the possibility to login as another user, have a look at the scripts of the live-cd. There is an automated boot into xbmc without any window manager nor any display manager like gdm/kdm/xdm.
