I have a problem with my DVD too quickly during the shooting movies. Incorporated in Windows Cdrom Drive Speed from Nero, but does not help in the operation, xbmc.
What is the council to reduce noise DVD ROM?
When you use xbmc also noticed that my DVDROM movie does not automatically starts.

AnyDVD has the capability to reduce the speed of the DVD for video playback which will reduce the noise. Otherwise, a very cheap option os to replace the drive with a quiet one.

libcdio, which we use, have the ability to spin down the DVD rom. Although its not working on linux and its not tested on osx or win32. Perhaps your lucky. I can probably cook up the patch again that was suppose to do it.
Otherwise anydvd should do it I guess.
