A few MCE remote control issues...
#1
Hello. My current setup is as follows:
Gigabute GA-73PVM-S2H JGA 775 Nvidia Geforce 7100 HDMI Mico ATX mobo
2GB DDR2 800 RAM (2 x 1GB)
Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 Wolfdale 2.66GHz OC'd to 3.1GHz
MCE Remote with codes programmed to a Harmony 880 Universal

So the first issue is that the green "Start" button functions properly, but it also powers on my xbox 360. Same problem with the "PC Power" button...I guess they use the same codes.

So I need to remap these keys. So found this wiki:
http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Keymap.xml

If I'm reading it correctly, if I wanted to remap the zero and one key for Menu and Power I would do something like this in the keymap file?

Code:
<keymap>
    <Global>
        <remote>
            <zero>PreviousMenu</zero>
            <one>PowerOff</one>
        </remote>
    </Global>
</keymap>

Is that right?

Also, I can get the remote to power off the xbmc but not power on. The MCE IR receiver is blinking red when the machine is in standby so I know its getting signal and has power, and the BIOS of my Mobo is to resume on USB, but so far I've had no luck. I noticed there was no "PowerOn" string in the wiki which makes sense since it's not loaded, it can interpret any commands. So I'm guessing this is an OS or BIOS level thing. Is there a way to program this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Looks like I didn't look very well on the power issue, apparently it's a sticky:

Ed,

To turn on your HTPC without also turning on your Xbox 360, see the following link. Follow the tip at the bottom of the page.

I have the same setup, and had the same MCE remote issues out of the box. I edited my Lircmap.xml (no changes to keymap), and configured my harmony to match:

I don't use suspend so I haven't bothered with that, but from what I've read, having the remote wake the computer is a OS-level issue and there's no easy/perfect solution yet. This is a good read though:

Matt: Thanks for the posts. My mobo has a feature for turning on at the press of any key and I've confirmed that it works with a wireless usb keyboard. I found an IR based usb keyboard online for about $20 so it might be the solution I need.

Tim: Thanks, checking the link.

Just to update I ended up going with the iMon Inside product to resolve the power issue. It's a hardware device with IR that plus directly onto the power pins of the mobo. I'd rather have the PC completely shutdown when done so this is a more solid solution for me.

I am using an iMon LCD that came with my Antec Fusion Black. Very handy for powering on and off the HTPC by remote. By the way, my iMon LCD uses standard Microsoft MCE remote (model 1039) codes. Which was why I had to change the remote control channel on my Xbox 360 so that it would not power on when I am using my MCE remote.

But I think the iMon Inside accepts a different set of codes, so you no longer have to worry about accidentally turning on your Xbox 360. However, you will have to edit your lircd.conf to reflect the changes. And if you still want to use your Logitech Harmony 880 remote, you will have to reprogram that also.
