Why is FFMPEG so old?

Is there a reason, or is it simply that no one's had chance to update it?

If you look at the source activity you would see it's being updated these days.

AreaScout tests the update ffmpeg in his branch and once all our custom changes are working we'll update ffmpeg to the latest svn in our main branch.
