I found out how to do it, and now Studio levels are working !!!!
It produces a better picture on my Panasonic Plasma TV.

Unless I made a mistake I find that both of the ColorRange "Limited" and ColorSpace "YCbCr444" modes incorrectly cause clipping >235 luminance levels. I will continue to use the VDPAU Studio Levels - though mpeg2 remains nonsense then.

I can't.
And no blacker-than-black either. Tried limited and full. Same result.
I suspect I have to fiddle a lot more with my TV options (LG with XD engine).

Well I have screen that supports and a DVDO Edge that allows me to flick levels back and forward and with VDPAU Studio Colour disabled and Xserver set to ColorRange Limited all whites higher than 234 are the same level. If I enable VDPAU Studio Colour then I see all 0-255 range seemingly squeezed into 16-235 levels (though I will have to get my meter out to confirm the actual white levels). I am using 260.19.06 nvidia drivers.
I don't understand how it is possible to get WTW to come out properly when Limited ColorRange is set.
I have been trying for longer than I can remember to find a way to have a media center do this properly. That is to display desktop and JPEG with 0 black output as BLACK, and all VIDEO with 16 black output as the same BLACK, and in all cases Desktop, JPEG and VIDEO to preserve white all the way up to 255 (or at least 254 with HDMI restrictions on the 255 value). This is the only correct way to do it! The actual level of output BLACK can be either 0 or 16 (perferably switchable) depending on your preference and how your equipment handles these levels.
