Intel Speedstep support in XBMC Live (XBMC for Linux)?
#1
Question
Hi all

I just downloaded the Atlantis 2 usb image and installed it to my harddriver however the image does not seam to do any CPufreq Scaling so my cpu always show full cpu speed in /proc/cpu

When I try to install the Speedstep_centrino I get... unknown device....

Modules are there and everything. Is this missing from the kernel image ?

I have Intel Dual core CPU 8400

Thanks Smile

Install powernowd with apt-get. After that you will have instantly scaled down frequenzy, because the default power policy in powernowd is ondemand.

You can check the actual freq with cat /proc/cpu...

It works very well with E7200 Intel CPU.

Thanks That did the trick Smile

I though Powernow was only for AMD Cpu's

id say add this as a feature request on trac. This should be enabled by default IMO.

Cheers,

I just tried to install powernowd with 'sudo apt-get install powernowd'.

I got this:

Code:
(T: XBMCLiveCD)xbmc@XBMCLive:~$ sudo apt-get install powernowd
[sudo] password for xbmc:

(T: XBMCLiveCD)xbmc@XBMCLive:~$

And the CPU frequency still shows as 3.166 GHz on my E8500 in /proc/cpuinfo. Any ideas?

Did you overclock? It won't work if you overclock in bios. Known issue (search google and you will see lots of people complaining).

Nope. No overclocking, I bought the E8500 so I wouldn't have to overclock. Smile

Did you enable Intel SpeedStep Tech in the BIOS?
It is in Advanced/ CPU configuration in case of your board...

Speedstep surely was not ebnabled in his BIOS. I got it working perfectly for Intel E7300.
