What other configuration files can be placed in the folder besides xorg.conf?
I really want to use a different sound card (Audigy2) and set it up as the default device permanently, also alsamixer is set at 80 or so and is really quiet. (Im using a laptop if that matters).

Also for future updates would it be possible to update just the img file? While keeping everything else?

only interfaces, xorg.conf and lirc-related config flies are taken into account; for all the rest you have to edit your system files, but changes will be lost on future upgrades.
