Basje Wrote:As the official author of XOT, I would like to point out some things:
  • It would be better to just host the channels and....
  • ...Let the users download the XOT Framework from the GoogleCode Site of XOT. This way, all possible problems (like the replacement of special characters) can be solved in the framework and can then be used again for your channels. That way the framework will be better.
  • Even better. Let me host the channels, that way the auto update will also work.
  • At least mention the fact that you are using other persons scripts
  • Your channels do not have a GUID. This will become a problem with the final 3.2.0 version of XOT.
  • Try PNG without a background that will look better then the white background

Hi Basje,

Reading this post i think that you're a bit upset.

I am sure that I have always stated that my plugin was derived from XOT UZG, giving full credit to the original author (you).

My intention is not to add channels to XOT-UZG, but to develop a new plugin starting from it. This is the advantage of open source projects. If you don't like me to do this, please be clear about it.

I have little python experience, but if you think i can help you adding my channels to XOT-UZG we can talk about it.

Saludos,

Saludos,
The idea behind XOT was that it is a framework that let people with fewer Python knowledge create channels easily without the fuzz of making it work with XBMC. With a lot of benefits:
  • One framework, many channels
  • Centralized updates of the framework
  • Centralized updates of channels
  • Channels are low on code
  • Framework will be updated to support new XBMC features without the channels need to change
  • The larger the number of users, the more fine-tuning and fixing of issues can be done

So I always encourage ppl to create channels, but to keep it a single framework (there even was an XXX version which only consisted of channels that could be used with the framework). I provide hosting and stuff and try (with help of others) too keep things working. In your case, it will take a lot of python coding off your back and I will be happy to help you make the channels work with the current version (and future versions of the framework).

You can host your own XOT-Spain package including central XOT-Framework and channels as one download and we can host updates of the channels on the XOT site so they appear in the update screen. This would be my preferred solution because it sticks to the idea behind XOT.

Anyways, if you want to create a seperate plugin and a new framework, it is all up to you, but in that case I would like you to at least make it your script/plugin and mention me. That also includes configuring it correctly.
  • It now checks my websites (framework and channels) for updates (so your users get my updatesConfused?)
  • logfiles are named like they are in the XOT-Uzg version.
  • The readme is complete related to XOT (and even hold the names of my sponsors)
  • and even the DB name is named the same.

Thanks for the reply, Basje. Your point of view is clear now Smile

I'll continue with my own plugin (with all the corrections you have mentioned) because it was my original intention, but i also will work in order to add my channels to the core distribution. Best of both worlds.

¿How can i do this? ¿Do you want me to send you each channel folder separately? ¿Can we try now with some of the channels?

You can mail me the channels at uitzendinggemist.vx[~@t~]gmail[~d0t~]com. Please also let me know when you have made the changes to your version of the script.

Glad to see some spanish tv get some xbmc scripts/plugins.

Are you planning to add televisió de Catalunya? (http://www.tv3.cat/seccio/3alacarta) I would love to see polonia and crackovia on xbmc (I need something to help me improve my Catalan!)

Anyway, thanks for all the work you’ve done. Much appreciated,

Hi, thanks a lot for your plugin, working great. I'd also like love to see support for televisió de Catalunya in XBMC . I can translate anything you ask me to, if you need it.

Thanks again
