Help getting Multichannel Audio please!
#1
Hi

Just setting up a Medion Akoya P36888 PC as HTPC

Video Card is NVidia 9300GS so DVI Only - Video is being supplied to TV Direct from DVI output

Motherboard has analog 7.1 output, but no digital output, I am supplying the audio to an Onkyo 606 AV Amp throu the DVD multichannel Analog inputs,

In Windows (VLC) I get 7.1 surround from encoded material, but in XBMX eveything is being downmixed to stereo! and only outouts from front centre speakers,

VLC works fine in Windows so I know my wiring is correct, any ideas on what I need to change to get this working with XBMC

(Without having to buy a new video card with HDMI Video and Digital audio out)

Thanks

There's a setting to select in advancedsettings.xml (it really ought to be inside the program IMHO) but as of now, unless I'm mistaken, there's still a mismatch in the channel assignment (like left is rear right, central is rear left, something like that). Depending on your motherboard, if it's Realtek audio you might be able to fix this through software.

Thanks for the info,

Could you point me in the direction of the advancedsettings.xml file, is it something I need to create, where does it go, and what setting do I need to change, sorry for being so dumb!

This is the wiki entry on Advancedsettings, although I don't actually see anything to specify how to treat multichannel audio.

http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Advancedsettings.xml

Userdata folder should be in C:\documents and settings\USERNAME\application data\xbmc\userdata

Make sure to substitue USERNAME and your windows username.

This is where I thought settings were for multichannel:
