ATTN: Amins or Mods please move this thread to the linux section of the forums...i accidentally posted it here. thanks

Well,
I have been a long time user of XBMC but I have been having issues with my Linux install since day one. I have actually been running without any networked content (aka 300+ DVDs archived to ISO) and it has finally got the better of me now. I am not angry but I am here sincerely seeking help. I was running Atlantis final but I switched to the latest SVN but that of course didn’t help either. I am running Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit edition fully patched with samba installed and everything. I just don’t understand what the problem is. I reported this problem vaguely months ago but that didn’t yield any results. I would be happy to post my log files if I knew where they were (XBMC isn’t exactly “complete”). Anyways, any help would once again be wonderful.

NOTE: I was able to find a log file....not sure what good it will do. here are the contents (last few lines).

What does this crash entail? What are the symptoms?

Does it coredump? Does it just freeze? How long do you wait after the freeze? Can you please post the _entire_ log file to pastebin.ca and link to it from here.

Thanks,
Jonathan
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.

You have the same issue as in these two threads.

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=42770

The common workaround is to mount your shares in ubuntu and then browse them as a local folder in xbmc.

no symptoms...it just immediately crashes to desktop whenever i try to do anything that has to do with SMB share. and locks up the mouse, i have to log-out and log back on to get it working again.

i read a few cross posts that the other responder linked to, so the issue seems to be well documented but no real solutions, other than map the share localy and access it in xbmc as if it were a local drive. have the devs tried to pin down the problems?

thanks, slice
