Tag & Library support for AIFF & WAV?
#1
Hi,

Are there plans to add support for id3 tags in AIFF and WAV formats? While XBMC supports playing these today it doesn't support the tags, preventing these formats from being used in library mode. iTunes puts tags in AIFF files and a handful of programs support wav tagging like Mediamonkey and Dbpoweramp.

I see this Trac number 'could' cover this functionality:
http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/3824

However that bug and the forum thread discussing it are more focused on video tags rather than audio.

I also see the milestone is 9.04, but that milestone page doesn't specifically mention those features, so not sure that it's committed.

If there's a _standard_ way to do tags in either of them, then find the documentation then post a ticket on trac.

I suspect there is none with WAV. Certainly not ID3, that's for sure.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.

Will do. AIFF definitely has a standard, and iTunes follows this. WAV may or may not have a specific standard, can't tell at this time. Regardless a number of developers have looked at the wav spec and figured out that any tagging scheme can be supported by extending the RIFF chunks with a custom INFO chunk, which is supported per spec. The header is called ID3, this ID3 chunk then follows the ID3 spec. My understanding is both AIFF and WAV more or less use this same RIF chunk technique to add the tags.

Here are probably the most useful threads on the subject I've found:

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=131130
http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/lofi...43021.html
http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.p...#post81230

Will do a bit more searching to see if I can find some more definitive documentation and post a ticket.

I second that request!

(my platform: XBMC on XBOX)

I was wondering why it was taking DAYS to import my music into the Library, and that over 50% of my music was missing, I read that XBMC requires tags.

As a result, I dedicated the weekend to abandoning iTunes and instead loaded MediaMonkey. I updated my server stored music and ensured those tags were embedded in all ther songs.

Now, the scan to library is going great, but the AIF files are ignored.

I realize an alternative would be to export my AIF files to an MP3 format and have that scanned in.

However, as AIF is a "lossless" format and sorage costs are plummeting, having this supported on the XBMC would be great.

Apparently MediaMonkey is having the same issues as well with supporting tags as well.

Here is a recent thread w/ their developers:

Nevermind.

At least for me, that is. :o)

After considering all the variables, I decided to scrap AIF and just moved to CBR 320 MP3.

Lotsa DTS multichannel material is in tagged .wav format.

Just listening to a Chinese sax player with multichannel wav... Till Guit Exorcism - Saxophone. Xbmc shouldn't deny anyone this pleasure....hope the newest tag updates clear up the problems.

There is any further development in this topic?

I really like XBMC but I really need this to use xmbc with my music.

Thanks

Since there isn't a standard for wav tagging i don't think this is gonna happen.

Saw another thread about this last week but can't find it atm

Found it
