Comments on my budget build. Can this run Blu-ray and 720/1080p

Hi i am building an budget HTPC for Blu-ray play (via powerDVD) and 720/1080p content playback via XBMC. Will this setup work without overclocking?


Motherboard: $79
ASUS M3A78-EM AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Has onboard digital video and audio through an HDMI wire.

There are many posts about CPU speed and the general (not without contention) consensus is that an Intel 3GHz C2D is needed to play all 1080p.

You may to ponder if your requirements are some 1080p or all 1080p

I guess my main concern is for blu-ray...can this play blu-ray as vast majority of the content I am going to dl is going to be 720p

Since XBMC doesnt do bluray i can comment other than to say if the GPU works with the dvd player software it should be fine. Google that one for specifics on your MB

I would buy the AMD 7750 vs the X2 5000. (Newer core, 2MB L3 Cache, unlocked)

Thanks at $15 more its a pretty good deal. I think I'll get this CPU.
