I am running Ubuntu 8.10 and whenever I watch a movie my panel screen shuts down with no video after about a 30 minutes or so. I can press any key on the keyboard and it wakes it up (no remote codes will wake it). I cannot figure out what settings in Ubuntu are causing this. I disabled the screen saver and have power management set to never sleep.

Thanks for the tip, adding the options to the X11 did the trick.
