after searching i found a lot of people are having problems with smb taking a long time to show the contents of a folder. that isn't the problem i'm having.

in my case, i have a folder of 10 pictures (loads instantly). i select a picture and it takes about 5 seconds to display. when i hit the right arrow to go to the next pic, it takes another 5 seconds and so forth.

i'm connected via wired 100baset ethernet to my winxp server and the pictures are jpegs of about a meg or so (6 megapixel camera).

is 5 seconds common for this scenario?

i have a 6mp digtal rebel and use smb. my pics load in the same way you describe. i love xbmc, but the my pics section is both slow, and simple. it would be great to have it worked on and improved by the devs. faster load, and more windows media center like slideshows with music are needed
